Session two

Session two: let’s get hooked!

Continuing into session 2: time to get wet! After getting the hang of the kite control on land, you will now get to experience the power of the kite with body dragging. Using different kite maneuvers and body positions, you will get pull in the water by your kite, to achieve a wide set of goals ranging from steering the kite while not touching the ground to making your way back to your otherwise lost board. This session will also cover some more advanced safety procedures such as the self-rescue and water pack down. By the end of this session, you should be able to perform all the kite maneuvers necessary to waterstart, ride and get intentionally pulled in any desired direction.

PREREQUISITES: Session 1 or being able to walk while flying the kite and relauch.

Session three: get on board!

Session three is the one you have been eagerly waiting for as it is now time to introduce the board and get your first riding attempts. Lots of fun and laughter to be expected as you might find yourself going over the board a few times! No worries there, however, as you will quickly learn the right amount of power and timing allowing you to to get up and riding. A key focus will be on maintaining the right body position, keeping the board at the correct angle, and using the kite to generate the power needed to waterstart. By the end of this session you should be able to handle the board while flying the kite in control and to consistently get up on the board and ride for a few feet.

PREREQUISITES: Session 2 or being able to perform body drags and power strokes.

Session four: let’s go for a ride!

Building on your waterstart skills, this lesson aims to enhance your ability to ride consistently and for longer distance. Now using full length lines and jetski assistance, we will move away from shore to allow you to have plenty of space to practice without having to worry about your surroundings. During this session, you will learn how to control your speed while riding and how to get to a controlled stop. Your instructor will teach you the proper body positioning and stance, focusing on weight distribution and edge control while maintaining consistent power in the kite. Before moving to session 5, you should be able to ride in control for 150 feet in both directions.

PREREQUISITES: Session 3 or being able to waterstart consistently and ride for a short distance.

Session five

Session five: get your wings!

You made it through the entire group session program and are now on your last step to graduate as an independent rider: how exciting! During this last session, your focus will be on learning and mastering the upwind riding as well as learning about the right of way rules and beach etiquette. Riding upwind allows you to return to your original starting point on the beach and without this skill, you would be constantly drifting downwind, requiring someone to pick you up or making a long walk back up the beach. By the end of this lesson, you should be able to ride upwind more consistently, be confortable with the safety procedures and have great surrounding awareness, allowing you to go out on your own. After that, the possibilities are wide: transition, jump, specializing in a discipline or just enjoying the freedom procured by harnessing the elements. Go get it!

PREREQUISITES: Session 4 or being able to ride for a long distance and stop in control.
